My name is Cédric Karlikowski. French, of Polish, Moroccan and Spanish descent. A family that crossed the European twentieth century through the Armia Krajowa, the French Foreign Legion and the decolonisation of the French empire. War isn't a subject I study. It's a family timeline.

I founded Cellule 51 because a reading is missing.Europe has been rearming since 2022. We watch the technology, we watch the capital. The third force, the one that decides which player the state notices first, goes unexamined. Defence media cover the contracts. Analysts cover the multiples. The narrative gets absorbed and commented on, never taken apart.

Anduril raised hundreds of millions before it had a contract deployed at scale. You'll object that Palmer Luckey already had the fortune and the network. Correct, and that's exactly the point. Seed capital comes before the narrative. It is what makes the narrative credible. What follows the narrative is state demand. Helsing proved it in Europe, capturing the technological sovereignty demand Germany had just articulated, and capturing it better than its peers: close to four times the valuation of the next player.

The order never reverses. Narrative comes before product. Demand follows narrative. Growth capital and industry follow demand.

I came to defence from the outside. First through economics, reading the sector as a question of capital and power. Then through marketing, my trade for ten years. I spent years in Web3 and crypto. I watched two instruments become weapons before anyone named them: the gamification of everything, and the founder's personal brand as a lever on capital. When the same codes resurfaced in defense tech, Ukrainian combat proof, OSINT, gamified citizen funding, founder-as-icon, I recognised them immediately.

No career inside a defence company. No allegiance to a prime, a lobby, a think tank or a fund. Nobody reviews me before I publish. An independent lens, with the cost that comes with it.

In practice, I spend my days inside the marketing output of European defense tech. Who builds a narrative, who controls it, at what point public demand answers it. Every claim is checked against primary documents. No AI output counts as a source. Every Wire states the condition under which it would be wrong.

Somewhere in what I publish, something is wrong. If you spot an error, a missing source or a figure that has moved, write to me. I correct faster than I take offence.

The name comes from Heraclitus. Fragment 51: the bow kills, the lyre makes music, and it's the same drawn string. Force and narrative don't oppose each other. They hold each other up.

Only one Greek god holds both. Apollo kills from a distance with his bow and makes the Muses sing with his lyre, patron of Spartan soldiers, presiding over the games at Delphi.
